Uttar Pradesh, probably the most boisterous state of India, is also the most populated in the country. And one also knows that when the agitation grows furthermore, it’s election time! These past five years has seen great political changes and shocking decisions that had shaken the country. People are getting into politics even more and most individuals of the country, ranging from a teen to adult to old aged people, are taking great interest in these matters. So let us take a look upon some of the topics which could give you a wider view to the elections in Uttar Pradesh, 2017.
Who were the 2012 winners?

A story almost always seems more relevant with a back-story provided. Before we look into the 2017 UP elections, let us gander at the ones in the year 2012.
As we can see Samajvadi Party won the maximum seats (224) by a huge lead and so the SP formed the government in UP with Akhilesh Yadav as the chief minister.

There has been many improvement since, no doubt; electricity issues, the CM himself being a tech-savvy, brought about technical improvements and even went on to dispense free laptops to students scoring 10 CPGA in boards. However, there were downsides too like the poor management of law and order since his taking the throne and development of roads or infrastructure of the less advanced cities. This year it will be interesting to see who wins the race.

UP ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2017: A Non-fictional Game of thrones

With the incoming of Mayawati and the politics brought upon Akhilesh Yadav in this baffling yet intruiging game, things are going to get pretty interesting in the UP elections. Whereas BJP is more or less considered by some to be in a pole position to form its government in Uttar Pradesh, it cannot be backed for certainly just yet.  And then BSP, who has had never formed a government on its own, bar 2007, also seems to be at par in this race. It looks difficult, however, for the Congress Party as they do not have the backing of Dalits (who occupy almost 20% of the population), lacks a good leadership for conquering the war and is left out of the apparently three horsed race between SP, BSP and BJP.

1. Indian National Congress(INC)

Out of the four parties, Congress seems to be the last one indeed. Their fall in power and votes has made it only to prove miraculous if they are to dominate in the 2017 UP elections.

No particular strengths that could prove to be vital in order to get them maximum seats. Still the Muslims community in the central UP may give some weightage to their votes.

Weakness -

Lack of leadership and support from Dalits who in turn encompass a good amount of population in UP (Nearly 20%) and their fall could portray them as untrustworthy in the following election race.

2. Samajvadi Party(SP)

It is probably the only party that comes to tackle BJP in their dominant form. Since its formation, SP has gone on to win a lot of votes and trust of the people with its well and meticulous organisation.

They have focused on three types of caste communities i.e Muslims(19% of the population), Yadavs(9%) and Rajputs(8%).  It is also predicted by some that they would form an alliance with BSP to forge the government and surge against BJP.

It is yet to maintain law and order under its governance. The crime rate has increased ever since their accrual. Favour for certain caste communities has left the Dalits on the fringes and in a suspected state of annoyance and anger.

3. Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP)

The only markable grand success of this party came in 2007 when they got a majority on their own. It was due to their seizure of opportunity when SP and BJP were not too much poised to win and in their weak state.

This party has a pretty good record of commanding law and order in the state and this is a great issue to be considered in the upcoming poll. With Mayavati, who has a good experience having been a chief minister of UP herself formerly and has known competing against the big boys of BJP. She has a good reputation amongst Muslims and if merged with the power of Akhilesh Yadav, BSP could very well go on to perform in the elections.

With its whimsical comeback in the race, it is uncertain if it could grip onto the voters from the 2007 elections and get the backing dalits who would be essential for the weightage for the vote count of any party.

4. Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP)

Narendra Modi, the present Prime Minister of India, is a powerful political figure in the country and his presence with the party alone makes the people ponder upon the formation of BJP’s government in Uttar Pradesh as well. The downfall of Congress came with the rising of this party. Since the last elections, BJP has earned a great majority of voters from its count. The people of Uttar Pradesh, as observed, have been quite impatient when it comes to development when it does not come by the government. This could be a very good chance for BJP for win the UP elections this time around.

BJP are a strong party since 2014 and could very well bag in the votes of the incredulous people who are denying SP, BSP and congress, together. People of UP are willing to experiment and give a chance to this government, appending to the added troubles of BSP and SP.

BJP lacks the organization needed to clench the votes. Castes like Muslims, Yadavs, Dalits are well tethered to BSP/SP as of their organization. Furthermore the alliance of BSP and SP would make the chances of BJP to win, subdued. There is also no leader in the state to match the dominance of Akhilesh Yadav and Mayavati, both of whom have experience in the chief minister post.

So , this game of thrones is captivating as anything more arresting topic than it is becoming. The fight between these three parties could go anywhere and also become a handicapped one as to see BSP and SP against BJP alone. Predictions and Calculations are on, but the result could arguably be an astounding one.
